Meeting with Jacqui Hawkins

Two members of WATCH met with Jacqui Hawkins, independent candidate for the seat of Benambra in the upcoming Victorian election.
Jacqui stood at the last (2018) election and, after preference distribution, came within 5% of winning the seat (Jacqui 47.55% vs Libs 52.45%).
Jacqui was very generous with her time, listened intently and spoke intelligently. This was in stark contrast to the Liberal incumbent’s (Bill Tilley) office which has consistently found excuses not to meet with environmental groups such as WATCH and Knitting Nannas for Renewables.
Jacqui has crammed a lot of education and experience into her young life. Over the years she has been headhunted by successful independents such as Cathy McGowan (Federal-Indi), Suzannah Sheed (State – Shepparton) and Ali Cupper (State – Mildura).
Jacqui is very aware of the need for climate action. WATCH members, Lauriston and Bruce, offered Jacqui contacts to deepen her knowledge in areas such as regenerative agriculture, green hydrogen etc.
As with the last election, preferences will most likely be the deciding factor for Benambra with a run off between Jacqui and the Libs.
Please vote for a candidate who will listen and act on climate change!
